Day 14: Unity Over Uniformity

SENT: 21-DAYS OF PRAYER AND FASTING

Unity Over Uniformity

Written By: Akin Moronkeji

Read Acts 15:1-21
School uniforms may make students look the same, but they cannot remove the differences between them. In the Church, our unity goes far deeper than outward appearance. We are held together not by sameness but by the love of God, first received from Him and then shared with one another. Love is our distinguishing mark. Love is our true uniform.

In Acts 15 the early Church faced real tension between Jewish and Gentile believers. Their backgrounds, customs, and cultures were very different. Yet the apostles recognised that Gentiles did not need to become Jewish in order to belong. Unity was not found in becoming alike but in the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. Their shared faith, not their shared culture, held them together.

The same is true for us today. We bring unique gifts, cultures, perspectives, and experiences into the body of Christ. The Gospel gathers us and makes us one family. Our differences do not weaken the Church. They enrich it. What unites us in Christ is far stronger than anything that makes us distinct. In Him, our diversity does not divide us. It displays the creativity, wisdom, and generosity of God.

Where the world seeks uniformity, Jesus brings unity.

Reflect

How can I focus on what unites us as brothers and sisters while still honouring the God given differences that enrich our community?

Prayer

Father, thank You that in spite of our differences we are united as one through Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to love one another deeply and serve one another with humility as one family in Christ. Amen.
